Head Instructor Yvette André
Yvette has a 3rd Degree Black Belt (Sandan) in Shotokan Karate and a 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) in Daiwa-Ryu Aiki Jiu Jitsu. Yvette has a deep empathy for others, and a true gift in her ability to work with a great variety of cultures and personalities. Teaching others to be confident, to have boundaries and self-awareness, as well as the ability to defend themselves, is truly a passion for Yvette. She continues to train and expand her various martial arts skills while also heading Sixth Sense Self Defence. Yvette teaches Karate and assists in Jiu Jitsu classes at Hastings Martial Arts.

Guest Instructor Emily Doehnel
Emily has a 2nd Degree Black Belt (Nidan) in Shotokan Karate, and has trained in competitive kickboxing. Her youth will inspire you, while her wisdom and knowledge are far beyond her years. She is constantly serving the community as a registered nurse.

Guest Instructor Monica Boudreau
Monica has a diverse, no-nonsense approach to her teaching style. She excels in everything she does, and brings the highest degree of technical skill to her classes. Monica has a 4th Degree Black Belt (Yodan) in Shotokan Karate, has trained in competitive kickboxing, and is an accomplished Gracie Jiu Jitsu practitioner. She is a certified personal trainer and in her “spare time” she likes to run half marathons.

Guest Instructor Cory Hastings
Cory is a life long martial artist and holds a 4th Degree Black Belt (Yodan) in Shotokan Karate, as well as a 4th Degree Black Belt (Yodan) in Daiwa-Ryu Aiki Jiu Jitsu. He has trained and taught competitive kickboxing and held the Canadian Muay Thai Association Super Middleweight BC title in 2011. He is the founder and head instructor at Hastings Martial Arts in North Saanich B.C. Cory kindly “suits-up” for some of our self-defence classes, allowing the woman to unleash their full force and new found skills. This training provides the benefit of a moving human target and gives a new appreciation for what we are truly capable of.
